The Old House Cottage
The original farmhouse, built approximately 300 years ago, was sympathetically restored in 2002 to provide a comfortable cottage steeped in history and character. With numerous original beams, explosed slate walls and an arrow slit window, we have endeavoured to ensure that the original character of the building has been retained wherever possible. The cottage was awarded the maximum 5 star grading by Wales Tourist Board in October 2003 and continues to maintain this grading. Tastefully furnished, extremely comfortable and equipped to the highest standards, the cottage sleeps up to 8 in double, bunk and family bedrooms, with two en-suite whirlpool bathrooms. The cottage is available for lettings to four persons (Double and Bunk bedrooms) or for up to eight persons (maximum 6 adults) including the Family room. Please see the rates for the two options. If you require the whole unit for 4 persons e.g. two Double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, please ask for a quotation. Ground floor At the front there is a large parking area, and paved patio area with table and chairs from which you can enjoy panoramic views. The delightful lounge/diner, with wood burning stove set in a slate fireplace, is surrounded by two comfortable three seater settees and fireside chairs. A TV and VCR housed in a pine TV corner unit, and a stereo CD/radio/cassette player complete the picture. In the dining area there is a solid pine table with upholstered dining chairs seating up to 8, together with a delightful matching dresser housing glasses, crockery, cutlery and so on. The fully fitted Maple kitchen with recessed halogen ceiling lights and ceramic tiled floor incorporates a fast halogen hob cooker with extractor fan over, dishwasher, microwave, and fridge-freezer. The extensive inventory of equipment includes electric toaster and kettle, cafetiere, extensive range of stainless steel saucepans, steamer and casserole, non-stick milk and frying pans, as well as Microwave dishes. Ample white bone china crockery and stainless steel cutlery, mugs and measuring jugs, mixing bowls, kitchen scales, colander, cheese grater, can opener, cork screw, knives, wooden spoons, whisks and so on. We've done our best to think of everything as we know how frustrating it is to try to cook with limited equipment! A fan-driven kick-space radiator provides warm air from the Central Heating system or can be switched over to provide a flow of cool air. The kitchen door leads to a large covered porch - home to a pile of logs for the fire, and ideal for storing wellington boots and fishing gear. It also provides a sheltered place for smokers to enjoy a puff (smoking is not permitted in the cottage). The porch also provides access to the utility room. Bedrooms. The romantic double room is delightfully furnished with pine furniture including dressing table with wall light over, stool and mirror, double bed with matching bedside drawer units, bedside lights, a double wardrobe with two drawers, and a Wellington chest of 6 drawers. Full length pine wall mirror. A gold and crystal chandelier hangs from the original beams. Both lights are controlled with dimmer switches. The bunk room has 3 ft wide pine bunk beds, dressing table, stool and mirror, and double wardrobe with two drawers. Lighting is provided by a double spotlight, as well as switched bulk head lights over each bunk bed. Original features including beams and wall alcoves have been retained.
The family room with a wealth of
original beams consists of two 'zones' plus a luxury en-suite whirlpool
bathroom. The main area has a pine double bed with matching bedside drawer
units with bedside lights, and pine dressing table, stool and mirror with light
over. This zone includes a seating area with TV/VCR, coffee table and
complementary tea/coffee making facilities. The large built-in wardrobe is
located in the second zone, providing 3 ft wide bunk beds with switched bulk
head lights over. There is privacy screening
between the two areas. The en-suite bathroom has a whirlpool bath with shower over. This room also benefits from an
external door leading to a patio area with table and chairs and a parking area.
Cottage Visitor's Comments"In many years of visiting the area this is the
best self-catering accommodation we have found in a long time - spotlessly
clean, warm and cosy. We were both surprised that your beautiful cottage had not
attained a higher Tourist Board grading - we certainly enjoyed it's facilities
and your warm welcome. We hope to see you for a return visit in the not too
distant future." "Absolutely brilliant weekend. Cottages are beautiful. Hopefully be back soon!" Roberts family, Merseyside. Feb 2003. "Fortunate to be your first guests in your very well equipped cottage.
No hesitation in recommending it to others." Mr & Mrs Sturges. We have since had very complimentary comments from all our visitors - and a selection of these will be added to the site as soon as I can get my hands on the visitor's book!! We look forward to welcoming you!
